01Tools

Everything inside the archives, opened up

RPFView reads GTA V's RPF archives directly and gives every kind of file a proper viewer: textures, 3D models and metadata, side by side with the archive tree.

Browse archives like folders

Open the game folder like Windows Explorer, including archives nested inside archives. Import, replace, rename and delete, then save crash-safe.

Instant search

All ~400,000 game files at once. Wildcards like adder*, filters like path:vehicles.rpf and ext:ytd, ydr.

Example: searching for “ext:ytd adder” lists the Adder's texture dictionaries, adder.ytd and adder+hi.ytd, inside x64e.rpf\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf.

YTD textures

DXT, BC4/BC5 and BC7 with mip levels and channel toggles. Export DDS or PNG, or replace textures with proper mipmaps.

3D models

.ydr, .yft and .ydd in 3D, textures found automatically, vehicles shown complete. Export OBJ or glTF.

Metadata as XML

Binary .ymt, .ymap, .ytyp and PSO files as readable, Rockstar-style XML, with hashes resolved to names.

02Studios

Every outfit. Every weapon. Every variation.

Two studios built on the game's own data: every clothing item and every weapon of the base game and all DLC packs, ready to preview and dress up. The Thumbnail Generator turns all of them into images.

Drawable Studio

Clothing and hair textures, on the model

Every component and prop of a ped such as mp_m_freemode_01, numbered like the game. Step through drawables and texture variations with the arrow keys, combine slots into an outfit, and save your own PNG, JPG or DDS straight into the component's .ytd.

  • Images of every item in every texture variation with Thumbnails → Clothing…: PNG, WebP or JPG, named by pattern.
  • Pick a texture from the variation gallery, from the folder, or drop your own image onto the model.
  • Replace a variation or the default texture, or create a new variation with the next free letter.
  • Works on the modded copy in mods\ when one exists.

Weapon Studio

Every weapon, every attachment, every camo

All weapons of the base game and every DLC pack, with their tints, components, camos and finishes. Pick a scope, suppressor or camo and the weapon is redrawn the way the game puts it together.

  • Tints use the weapon's own palette, so MK II weapons show all 32 of theirs.
  • Save image… for the weapon on screen, or Thumbnails → Weapons… for every weapon, tint, component, camo and finish in one run.
  • Search by weapon, model, component or DLC pack name.

03Safe by design

Your original game files stay untouched

RPFView never modifies the game unless you explicitly edit and save an archive, and even then it steers the edit into the mods folder.

Edit mode

Guards against accidental changes: archives are only edited when you mean to.

mods\ folder workflow

Editing an archive inside the game folder? RPFView offers to copy it to mods\ first.

Crash-safe saving

Archives are rebuilt into a temporary file and swapped in atomically, with an optional .bak backup.

No silent overwrites

If another program changed the file meanwhile, RPFView refuses to overwrite it and offers to reload.

04Power tools

Scriptable, and always up to date

Command line

Every weapon meta file in under a second

rpfview-cli extract-weapon-metas pulls the weapon metadata of the base game, the update and every DLC pack, about 450 files, keeping the game's folder structure. It is read-only towards the game, so it suits scripts and AI agents.

Windows PowerShell

Example: running rpfview-cli extract-weapon-metas prints the game folder and the output folder, then reports “453 file(s) extracted to D:\work\weapon-metas in 0.2 s. Searched 179 archive(s).”

Updates before RPFView even opens

At startup a small window checks for a new version, downloads it, installs it and restarts. Updates are usually small delta packages, often under 1 MB. No connection? RPFView starts normally after a few seconds.

Illustration of the startup window: it checks for updates, downloads the new version with a progress bar, installs it and opens RPFView.

05First start

Modding in three steps

RPFView ships no Rockstar keys. It derives them once from your own GTA5.exe and caches them, so later starts need nothing.

  1. 1

    Pick the game folder

Detected automatically in Steam libraries, the Rockstar Games Launcher, Epic Games and common install folders.

  2. 2

    Set up keys

One consent click lets RPFView fetch CodeWalker's public magic.dat, or pick a local copy. Keys are verified against your game.

  3. 3

    Start modding

Browse, search, preview and export right away. Switch on Edit mode when you want to change something.
